Clearer reading. Independent control.

OCTOBER 2026

THE BIG READ / ISSUE 01

A clearer page.
A voice of your own.

Information is more useful when you can read it your way, ask a good question and keep control.

INDEPENDENT READING GUIDES · U.S. EDITION

Begin with one reading task ↗
Layered reading pages sit beside a circle labeled Read, Pause, Ask. A marked line says Keep the question. The composition presents a reading session as a controlled return to the source.
One task, a usable format and a question to keep. Original editorial illustration.

Understand the words

A source page with Before reading, Three formats and Questions to keep is connected to a numbered personal outline. Labels stay attached while the ideas gain more room.
A personal outline can change the layout while keeping the source relationships visible.

Turn a Dense Page into Reading Notes

Build a personal outline that preserves headings, labels and the reader’s questions without pretending to replace the source.

Keep your control

A dark oval identifies the reader as the person who chooses, pauses and decides. Across a marked boundary, a helper can read a passage, find a heading or write a question, asking before changing roles.
A helper’s role can be useful, specific and changeable. The reader keeps direction of the session.

Invite Help Without Handing Over the Decision

A reading partner can support the task while leaving the pace, questions and choices with you.

Prepare the conversation

Three connected circles say Explain in your words, Locate in the source and Revise if needed. The loop shows a voluntary source check rather than a grade or assessment.
Explain, locate and revise: a check of the reading, not a test of the reader.

Check Understanding Without Turning It Into a Test

Explain one relationship, find its support and keep uncertainty visible without grading the reader.

Fictional session: paper, a glossary beside the source, about five minutes, two parts to compare and a helper who writes questions only.

  1. Preview the reading extract. Keep both passages, their headings and any continuation or reference note together.
  2. Place a small glossary beside the source. Keep the original term and its proposed meaning visible; ask whether the meaning fits this passage.
  3. Use the short session for one relationship, saving the final moment for a restart heading. No consequential decision is implied by this time limit.
  4. Read both parts with their labels. Compare the same question in each and write down any missing relationship rather than assuming an answer.
  5. Ask the helper to write only your question, then read it back for your approval. Agree on who keeps the note; no speaking or deciding for you is included.
  6. Close by asking what you can explain, where to check it and what remains open. The result is a reading plan, not provider instructions or a guarantee of a format.

Good questions deserve a little space.
